Indianapolis area land research

Research Indianapolis-area land with public parcel evidence first.

The Indianapolis market page covers Marion County and Hamilton, Hendricks, Boone, Johnson, Hancock, Morgan, and Shelby counties. It uses Indiana’s statewide public parcel layer to compare coverage and build a small large-parcel screening set.

Market screen

Use the statewide layer for coverage, then verify locally.

Parcel Supply

Compare aggregate parcel counts across the core county and seven surrounding counties.

Large-Parcel Samples

Review a bounded sample of large source polygons with geometry-derived acreage for early screening.

Recorded Class Codes

Use DLGF property class codes as source context without inventing labels the parcel service does not publish.

County Verification

Confirm boundaries, acreage, zoning, road access, utilities, drainage, taxes, and permitted use with local records.

What the source provides

IndianaMap provides public parcel polygons, county identifiers, DLGF property class codes, township context, and source-agency provenance. The dashboard publishes aggregate counts and a small privacy-conscious geometry sample.

What the source does not provide

The current statewide layer does not include a usable acreage, assessed-value, market-value, or building-count field. The dashboard says those measures are unavailable. Candidate acreage is calculated from geometry and remains a screening estimate that needs county verification.

How to use the market page

Start with county coverage, inspect large-parcel samples, then move to the relevant county assessor and planning records. The dashboard is not a listing feed, valuation, survey, title report, or buildability determination.
